Israeli stabbing victim neutralized terrorist before succumbing to his wounds

Ari Fuld, a 40-year-old Israeli man, has died after being taken to a hospital in Jerusalem following a stabbing attack by a 17-year-old Palestinian assailant outside of a shopping mall near Gush Etzion Junction in the West Bank.

Fuld was identified as a father of four from Efrat, an Israeli settlement south of Jerusalem.

The attacker was identified as a 17-year-old from Yatta, a village just south of Hebron.

The victim was stabbed and seriously injured, but managed to get backup drawing his personal pistol to neutralize the terrorist.

The IDF initially stated that an additional civilian shot and neutralized the ‘terrorist’ at the scene, according to a statement from Israeli Defense Forces.

The victim was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem to be treated for severe wounds to his upper body.

The incident took place at the entrance to the Arim shopping mall at the in between the Kfar Etzion and Gush Etzion settlement blocks, southwest of Bethlehem in the West Bank, it said.

IDF troops and security forces are currently operating at the scene.

Hamas praised the attack following Fuld’s passing, saying that “the stabbing attack meets the sacrifices” of the Palestinian people and reiterates their “determination to continue their struggle for Jerusalem and their legal right to practice all types of resistance against the occupation,” according to a statement from the movement’s spokesman Abdulatif al-Qanou.

A source who knows the attacker’s family reportedly told Haaretz that he had planned to carry out the stabbing in Hebron at the flashpoint Tomb of the Patriarchs. His family reportedly alerted Palestinian authorities, but the teen was not found near the tomb.

Following the incident, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman tweeted “my heart is with Gush Etzion. My condolences to the victim’s family. We will continue to fight terrorism with an iron hand.”

This is the second stabbing attack to occur in the West Bank in recent months, after an Israeli, 31, was killed and several others were wounded by a Palestinian assailant who entered the Geva Binyamin settlement.
